Hercules Goss-Kuehn

 

Hercules (They/Them) is a Sign Language Interpreter, Curriculum Developer and Community Health Educator based in Hawaii.

They are a collaborative researcher, curriculum developer, and facilitator for a Deaf and ASL-centered approach to assessing intersectional racism within the Interpreting field. They recently led the first series in Hawaii toward Building Racial Consciousness for ASL interpreters. The research and curriculum is called the Critical Conversations about Race - Developing Awareness of Privilege in Professional Practice by Unpacking Racism through Communal Dialogue. We utilize two scientific approach models. The first model being Courageous Conversations about Race by Glenn E. Singleton. The second being the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). They presented our team findings at the 2021 National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf conference.

They graduated Summa Cum Laude from Metropolitan State University with a degree in Individualized Studies of American Sign Langauage, Linguistics and Business in 2020. They also earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Gallaudet University in Sign Language Interpretation and Translation.
